How much is a personal trainer in the UK?
At PureGym, a personal trainer charges £30 to £65 for a 45 to 60 minute session outside London. At its London gyms, it’s around £45 to £65. Those are the ranges PureGym publishes for its gyms, where trainers set their own rates.
Third Space starts its sessions from £85 an hour. Some big gyms, such as Virgin Active, don’t publish their personal trainer prices, so you only find out by asking.
| Where you train | Published price per session | Session length |
|---|---|---|
| PureGym, outside London | £30 to £65 | 45 to 60 min |
| PureGym, London | Around £45 to £65 | 45 to 60 min |
| Third Space, London | From £85 | 60 min |
| Colossus PT, Canary Wharf | £95 to £100 in a package | 60 min |
Prices were read on each operator’s own website on 3 November 2026.
I’m Eugene Churkin, a CIMSPA-accredited Level 3 Personal Trainer and Level 4 Strength and Conditioning Coach. I coach 1-2-1 at UNTIL Canary Wharf, to the time-proven Eastern European standard I grew up with.
How much should a personal trainer cost, and what should it include?
At Colossus PT, the price of a package covers the support around each session as well as the hour in the gym. That’s why I tell people to compare what’s included.
From time to time, I receive a new enquiry from a potential client. It says: “Hi, could you let me know your prices for personal training?” Most people who ask this are checking whether personal training fits their budget.
To convince them to buy a package, I have to explain that they are not just paying for an hour in the gym. They are getting structured coaching, nutrition support, WhatsApp support, accountability and monthly check-ins.
When people compare me with a cheaper trainer, they often leave out all the perks they receive on top of ordinary training sessions. In my view, pushing hard in the gym is only 30% of the success. Nutrition and recovery matter just as much.
Clients are usually comparing only the hourly session price. I normally say: “I understand that the price matters, but it’s important to compare what’s included.”
How much is a PT session at Colossus PT?
A PT session at Colossus PT costs £95 to £100 for 60 minutes. A 90-minute session costs £141 to £148.50. Bigger packages cost less per session. I coach 1-2-1 at UNTIL Canary Wharf in packages of 4, 8 or 12 sessions, at 60 or 90 minutes.
| Package | Price | Per session |
|---|---|---|
| 4 × 60 minutes | £400 | £100 |
| 8 × 60 minutes | £780 | £97.50 |
| 12 × 60 minutes | £1,140 | £95 |
| 4 × 90 minutes | £594 | £148.50 |
| 8 × 90 minutes | £1,158 | £144.75 |
| 12 × 90 minutes | £1,692 | £141 |
Packages are valid for two months from the day you buy them, and every one includes a tailored nutrition plan.
Most new clients start with the four-session package, because it’s the lowest-commitment option. Once they experience the coaching and start seeing progress, a good proportion move up. How far depends on budget and on how many sessions a week fit their diary.
What happens before you start with a personal trainer?
Before you start, a personal trainer should check your health, history and movement. At Colossus PT, that takes two steps before any programme is written.
- A WhatsApp conversation about your goals, training history, availability and any past injuries.
- A free consultation. It usually lasts 30 to 40 minutes. It starts with a short Q&A about your health, lifestyle, sleep, stress, nutrition and previous exercise experience, followed by a taster session.
During the taster session, I ask you to complete several fitness assessment tests. They identify any mobility restrictions and uncover imbalances that should be addressed when I design your programme, should you decide to sign up with me.
I look at basic movement patterns and relevant range of motion, especially around the ankles, hips, spine and shoulders. I check for restrictions, pain, asymmetries and control issues. That way I can programme appropriately.
If anything requires a closer look or falls outside my qualifications, I usually refer clients to a physiotherapist at UNTIL for further assessment. They can determine which exercises and movement patterns should be emphasised or avoided, and explain why.
When is a smaller personal training package the better choice?
I recommend a smaller package when someone is new to training or unsure about the commitment. It also suits people who travel a lot, or who are capable of doing some work independently. I suggest it even though a bigger package costs less per session.
My clients are busy London professionals, often aged 30 and above. They need a structured plan that fits around their work and real life.
Colossus PT sessions run on weekdays from 6am to 8pm and on Saturdays from 7am to 2pm. My article on training around a demanding job shows how a few sessions a week can fit a full diary. The one on strength training for longevity explains the long-term view.
So what does a personal trainer cost at Colossus PT?
A Colossus PT session costs £95 to £100 for 60 minutes, with a nutrition plan, WhatsApp support and monthly check-ins included. Most new clients start with 4 sessions. My about page has more on how I coach, in English, Russian or Ukrainian.
Frequently asked questions
What do personal trainers charge in London?
Personal trainers at PureGym's London gyms charge around £45 to £65 a session, against £30 to £65 at its gyms outside London. Third Space starts from £85 an hour. At Colossus PT in Canary Wharf, a 60-minute session costs £95 to £100 in a package.
How much is a 1 hour PT session?
Published prices for a PT session in London run from about £45 to £85 or more, depending on the gym and the trainer. Some big gyms, such as Virgin Active, don't publish their rates. At Colossus PT, a 60-minute session costs £100 in a package of 4 and £95 in a package of 12.
Do personal training packages expire?
Colossus PT packages are valid for two months from the day you buy them. That covers a package of 4, 8 or 12 sessions at 60 or 90 minutes. Other trainers set their own rules, so ask about expiry before you pay for any package.
Which personal training package should I buy first?
Most new Colossus PT clients start with the 4-session package, because it is the lowest commitment. It also suits you if you travel a lot, are new to training or can do some work on your own. A good proportion of clients move up to a bigger package once they see progress.
What should a personal trainer's price include?
A personal trainer's price should cover more of your week than the hour in the gym. At Colossus PT, every package includes a tailored nutrition plan, WhatsApp support and monthly check-ins. Eugene's advice is to compare what's included, because the hourly price on its own leaves those things out.
Is the Colossus PT consultation free?
Yes. Eugene's consultation is free and usually takes 30 to 40 minutes. You talk through your goals and history, then try a taster session so he can see how you move before any programme is written.
What happens if the assessment finds a problem?
If something needs a closer look or is outside his qualifications, Eugene usually refers you to a physiotherapist at UNTIL. The physio can tell you which exercises to focus on or avoid, and why.
